Discovered by Lisbon University geologists in 2001, these prehistoric tracks are clearly visible in the sedimentary rocks at the western end of the beach, near the staircase leading up to the Casa das Estevas clifftop.
The yellow limestone formations at either end of the beach tell their own geological story, topped with contrasting red Quaternary strata that create a stunning palette against the azure sky. Fossil enthusiasts will find shells, scales and other ancient remnants embedded in these rocks.

Take the clifftop path from the beach to explore neighboring Boca do Rio cove, close to Villas Praia Dourada, Sol e Mar and Vista Paraiso. During summer months, sea daffodils bloom along the path, while the surrounding scrub and trees host colourful wildlife.
Keep your eyes peeled for hoopoes, distinctive birds with brilliant crown feathers and bee-eaters – vivid mixes of gold-brown, turquoise and yellow that perch on telegraph wires between their acrobatic flights catching insects.
