We’re delighted to share some very special news about Villa Sol e Mar: our villa has achieved the coveted Airbnb Luxe status.
To put this into context, among the thousands of villas available to rent in the Algarve, only 25-30 of them currently have ‘Luxe’ status.
This is much more than simply another badge on our website. Airbnb Luxe represents a very small and highly curated collection of exceptional homes around the world, selected for their quality, design, location and the experience they offer to guests.
And, importantly, Villa Sol e Mar didn’t simply apply and receive the status automatically.
Invited to apply because of the villa’s design and quality
Villa Sol e Mar was invited by Airbnb to apply for Luxe status, following their team’s recognition of the quality, appearance and design of the property.
We then navigated the Airbnb Luxe assessment process, which included a personal inspection of Villa Sol e Mar by an Airbnb Luxe inspector.
This wasn’t a simple online application or a review based on photographs. A representative in the Algarve came to the villa in person to assess the property and its overall quality.
What does Airbnb Luxe actually mean?
Airbnb Luxe is Airbnb’s premium collection of some of its most exceptional properties. Homes included in the collection are expected to deliver a consistently high standard across everything from architecture and interior design to furnishings, amenities and the overall guest experience.
The assessment considers the property as a whole, including factors such as:
- Interior design and aesthetics
- Quality of furnishings and finishes
- The standard of the kitchen and appliances
- Bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces
- Outdoor areas and landscaping
- Swimming pool and leisure facilities
- Location and privacy
- Overall condition and presentation
- The quality and completeness of the guest experience
In other words, it’s not enough for a villa simply to look luxurious in photographs. The property needs to deliver that standard in person.

A luxury Algarve villa that has been independently inspected
For us, one of the most valuable aspects of achieving Luxe status is the independent assessment.
We are incredibly proud of that distinction.
We’ve always believed that our luxury Algarve villas in Salema are special. From positions overlooking the beautiful village and beach of Salema to their interiors, furnishings and carefully considered spaces, we’ve put a great deal of thought into creating villas that feels genuinely special rather than simply describing them as “luxury”.
Having Airbnb recognise that quality and invite us to put our villa forward for Luxe status was therefore a wonderful endorsement.
What this means for our guests
For guests considering a stay at Villa Sol e Mar, Airbnb Luxe status provides another reason to feel confident when choosing the villa.
Of course, no badge can replace the things that really matter on holiday: waking up to a beautiful view, walking down to Salema beach, enjoying a meal on the terrace, relaxing by the pool and having somewhere genuinely special to come home to.
But we hope that our Airbnb Luxe status gives prospective guests an extra sense of confidence that Villa Sol e Mar is a villa that has been properly assessed and recognised for its quality.
